SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome – coronavirus 2) is the microorganism that can cause the disease. Being positive for SARS-CoV-2 does not mean that you will necessarily have Covid-19. But it is very important to respect the quarantine (mandatory isolation) because, even without being sick, you can transmit the disease to other people.

Covid-19 is the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. When your body contacts SARS-CoV-2 and cannot fight it, you develop the disease we call Covid-19 (CoronaVirus Disease 19).

Yes, because in this situation there is a risk of contagion. Therefore, you must remain in voluntary prophylactic isolation for a minimum of 14 days or until otherwise instructed by your school or the local health authority.

You should only do this with authorization from the health authority and if you are able to keep yourself isolated, even from your family, because there is always a risk of contagion!

Confinement refers to your responsibility to limit exits from your home and contacts with other people to what is strictly necessary (which is mandatory in states of emergency);

Quarantine refers to a situation of isolation decreed (therefore mandatory) for those who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2;

Prophylactic isolation refers to the need to remain isolated, and you cannot have any contact with another person.

Isolation can be voluntary (when it is your responsibility that guarantees it) or mandatory, when it is enacted by a health authority. In the last case, disrespect for isolation is a crime of disobedience that can be punished by law.

Yes. The Polytechnic of Leiria has some support services at your disposal:

– Psychological support, through SAPE – Student Support Service (visit the website or Facebook Page);

– Support in the delivery of meals from our canteens, contacting the SAS – Social Action Services (sas@ipleiria.pt  / 244 830 010) or your micro–influencer colleague, through the contacts provided on this page: https://covid-19.ipleiria.pt/microinfluenciadores/

– Support for the delivery of essential goods (supermarket and pharmacy) through the “Pede e Recebe” project. Place your order through social networks (Facebook and Instagram).

– You can also perform a test for SARS-CoV-2, when it is not decreed by the local health authority, through the Polytechnic laboratories (send email to: covid-19@ipleiria.pt ).

No. The risk assessment is carried out on a case-by-case basis by the person responsible for the Contingency Plan at the Polytechnic of Leiria, in collaboration with the health authority. Only if risk is identified may it be necessary to extend security measures to other people.

You must remain in voluntary prophylactic isolation until otherwise indicated by the health authority or the Polytechnic of Leiria.

The behaviors are exactly the same. The only difference is that in a decreed prophylactic isolation, you have to comply with an order of health authority, and you can be accused of disobedience by justice if you don’t do it; in the case of voluntary prophylactic isolation, it is your responsibility that ensures compliance with the measure.
